Sports fans were treated to a fantastic night of entertainment when FA Charter Standard Development Club Sandbach United held their seventh annual Sportmans Dinner recently with Micky Quinn at Crewe Alexandra Football Club. The dinner is always popular but the 2011 event was the biggest so far with over 220 guests attending.
Micky Quinn, the former prolific goal scorer with Newcastle, Coventry and Portsmouth who now concentrates on racehorse training and presenting at TalkSPORT radio, kept the audience entertained with stories covering his football career.
However the warmest applause of the evening was saved for when Sandbach United presented their first Life Membership Award to Tom Cole.
The award was presented by guest speaker Micky Quinn and Club Chairman Andrew Timms, in recognition of many years of association with youth and adult football in Sandbach. Tom has been an avid supporter of the teams his son and grandsons have played in, hardly missing a game, he has also helped for many years with the Club's tournament and fund raising events. His Saturday afternoons are taken up now supporting the club's first team in the Staffordshire County Premier League which his son Dave now manages.
Andrew Timms, Club Chairman commented "Tom has been involved with football in Sandbach for a long time, he thoroughly deserves the accolade of being made our first Life Member. Tom will be the first name on our Life Member's board which will take pride of place in our new multi-pitch facility at Abbeyfields which is currently under construction and will hopefully be completed by September this year."
