We take a look at the opening three games of John Skupski's reserve team competing in Cheshire League One.

After an excellent pre-season our Reserve team got their league campaign underway on 30 July in a home game against Congleton Town Reserves. Much like the first team the team has recruited well over the summer adding the likes of Ben Chester, Sam Rigg and Matty Purcell to the squad whilst retaining the majority of last seasons squad with Lewis Barker, Ryan Dodd, Chris Horsfield and of course the ever present Harry Nash. It's also great to see players who have come all the way through the ranks being given an opportunity, Oli Arthurs, Zac Bowyer, Mason Wilson, Micah Johnson and Ben Burns have all featured this season, the last three on that list are all just 16 years old!!

So onto our opener, Congleton brought an experienced side to Hind Heath Road but it was our own experience that shone through in the first half with a stunning goal from Harry Cain fiving Sandbach a deserved lead. Congleton were not going to lie down though and equalised with 20 minutes to play and could of won it to be fair in the dying seconds of the game but for a good save from Joel Dovey.

Our first away trip saw us travel to Egerton who had won both of their first games so the team knew it was going to be a battle. They probably didn't expect a first half like this though as both teams went for it and the game see sawed as the goals flew in. Sandbach eventually gained the upper hand and ran out 6-4 winners with 2 goals from Mason Wilson, 2 from Chris Horsfield and Lewis Barker and James Webster notching the others.

A trip over to Stockport followed to face Cheadle Heath Nomads in another tight game against another team who had take maximum points from their opening two games. Another 1-1 draw with a goal from Jack Berman saw our Reserve side maintain their unbeaten record. In his interview after the game, defender, James Webster said 'The atmosphere in the dressing room is at an all time high', with comments like that an unbeaten start to the season, you cant really ask for much more than that.

The next two games bring even bigger tests with FC St Helens and Malpas having great starts to the season, but there is only one team in our division with a zero in the defeats column and that's Skuppies team. Long may it continue!!
