The Ramblers won 1-0 against 15th placed Shawbury United on Saturday afternoon.

After a commendable 5-0 cup win midweek against Barnton, Sandbach were eager to pick up three points at Hind Heath Road, to get closer to a play-off spot.

The Shropshire side sat in 15th place, 10 points less than Sandbach, with recent losses to teams such as Winsford United and New Mills.

Two recent signings made their league debuts, Marcus Dibble and Ryan Goodwin. The centre-half partnership sat just behind Sandbach captain, Kieran Nolan.

Goodwin made a great first impression within the opening ten minutes, with a fantastic recovery run as he intercepted a promising low cross into the box.

At the start of the first half, Declan Swan’s men struggled to break down Shawbury, due to gaps in the middle of the field. Additionally, Kieran Alley was finding himself in acres of space but was rarely receiving the ball.

In the 28th minute, Alley was booked and sin-binned for ten minutes for dissent towards the referee.

Moments before half time, Alley finally got a clear-cut chance on goal, however his shot on target was blocked by Shawbury goalkeeper, Ashley Rawlins.

Only two minutes later, Sandbach took the lead with a well-worked goal. Joseph Bevan made a great run with the ball down the wing before squaring it to Ben Greenop, who hammered it into the back of the net. Greenop added to his high goal tally, making it his 12th goal of the season.

In the 60th minute, Joseph Bevan was through on goal and was in a one-on-one situation with the keeper, however his promising shot glided wide.

As the game progressed, the hosts’ confidence increased, as it was looking like they were the more likely team to score the next goal. Bach defended well and appeared to be dangerous in attacking movements.

Sam Lynch almost made it 2-0 to Sandbach, after a late, close-range shot which the goalkeeper managed to get a hand to.

Sandbach held on until the final whistle and kept the clean sheet. They didn’t allow the visitors to equalise and remained solid at the back throughout the second half.

Bach’s next fixture is on Tuesday night against Allscott Heath, as the Ramblers will attempt to proceed in the Edward Case cup, away from home.
