Women's New Chapter Begins

Dani Taylor26 Jul 2021 - 15:21

The 2021/2022 pre-season is underway...

At the end of the disturbed and COVID-19 stricken 2020/2021 season, Sandbach United Ladies said goodbye to their manager of 4 years.

Steve Wright helped re-establish the Ladies team 4 years ago through a merger with Congleton Vale Juniors at U18 girls. Despite not quite getting the recognition due to the beginning of the pandemic, a highlight of his time at the club was promotion to the Premier Division of the Cheshire Women's and Youth League last year. This season, the team finished in a respectable 3rd place under Steve's management but he announced at the end of the campaign that was to be his last in charge.

Steve has been thanked for his hard work and commitment to the ladies team throughout his time as manager and wished the best for the future.

The end of one chapter sees the start of a new. The Ladies team have since transitioned to 'Sandbach United FC Women' and this is not the only change...

For the 2021/2022 season, Aaron Duce will be taking over the Women's team as Head Coach. This an exciting appointment for the team, Aaron having plenty of coaching experience having worked at Stoke City Community Trust alongside coaching in the Women's game at Shrewsbury Town previously.

An interview was held with Aaron before his second training session with the team and he told us a little bit about himself, his first impressions and ambitions for the future.

Fast forward a week as Sunday 25th July marked the first pre-season friendly vs local team, Nantwich Town Ladies who have been promoted to the Premier Division for the 2021/2022 season ahead. The game was competitive and a good advert for women's football in Cheshire. A tight match in the end as the home team let a 2 goal lead slip, resulting a final score of 3-3. New head coach Aaron said post-match, "A good start to pre-season, lots of good performances and plenty of positives to take away!"

The season is now underway. New name. New head coach. Exciting times ahead...
